Protective size guide

Every brand, and often every model, has its own size chart. Take your measurements using the methods below, then check the chart on the product page. Use a soft tape measure and measure over a thin base layer.

How to measure

Kit Measure How
Helmet Head circumference Run the tape around your head about 2 cm above your eyebrows, keeping it level all the way round.
Shoulder pads Chest Around the widest part of your chest.
Elbow pads Forearm length Bend your arm to a right angle. Measure from the point of the elbow to the crease of your wrist.
Gloves Hand length From the tip of your middle finger to the crease of your wrist.
Shin guards Shin length From the centre of your kneecap down to the top of your skate boot, with skates on. Bauer measures to the centre of the outer ankle bone instead.
Hockey pants Waist Around your waist where the pants will sit.

Helmets

Helmets usually come in small, medium and large, but the ranges overlap and change from model to model. Always use the chart for that helmet. A good fit is snug but comfortable, sits about a finger's width above your eyebrows, and lines your ears up with the ear holes.

Shoulder and elbow pads

Shoulder pads are sized by chest, and elbow pads by forearm length. Most charts also list height and weight as a rough guide. Pads should feel snug but not restrictive. Loose pads shift about when you play.

Gloves

Glove sizes are given in inches, such as 13" or 14". That's the size of the glove, not your hand measurement, so match your hand length to the chart. Your fingertips shouldn't press into the ends, and the cuff should meet your elbow pad without a big gap.

Shin guards

Shin guards are also sized in inches. Brands measure in different ways, so check which method the chart on the product uses. When fitted, your knee should sit in the centre of the knee cup.

Hockey pants

Most charts go by waist size. Bauer asks you to measure your waist where the pants sit, then take off 3 inches for men or 4 inches for women to get your pant size. Other brands work differently, so always check the chart on the product. Hockey pants should overlap the top of your shin guards.

Other brands split their ranges a little differently. Sherwood's junior shin guards, for example, run 11 to 13". Treat the age groups as a rough guide and go by your measurements.

LINER | EPP liner is the foundation to providing lightweight protection against
all impacts. IMPAX foam zones over the temples provide an additional level of
protection against hits and other impacts.
SNAP FLAPS | Traditional tool-less adjustment system to properly fit the helmet,
hassle free.
COOLING VENTS | Integrated within the helmet shell, our unique vent design
directs air flow thru the helmet and around the player’s head to help stay cool
out on the ice.

Delivery and collection
  • UK delivery £4.95, free on orders over £100. Same price to Northern Ireland, the Highlands and islands, though it may take a little longer.
  • Delivery usually takes 2 to 5 working days, tracked. We’ll let you know if anything will take longer.
  • Gloves Off clothing is printed to order: delivery takes 7 to 10 days, or it’s ready to collect in store in 3 to 5 days.
  • Free click and collect from our Kirkcaldy shop when we’re open. We’ll email you when your order’s ready, usually within 24 hours, and keep it for 14 days.
  • We deliver to the UK only for now.
Returns
  • Changed your mind? You can return online orders within 30 days.
  • Return postage is yours unless the item is faulty or we sent the wrong thing. Returns and size swaps in the shop are free.
  • Try skates on indoors with the blade guards on. Once you’re sure of the fit, we’ll sharpen, profile or bake them for you.
  • Skates that have been skated on, sharpened or baked, and sticks that have been cut, taped or used, can’t be sold again, so the refund is reduced by up to the full price unless they’re faulty.
  • Personalised items, special orders and opened mouthguards can only come back if they’re faulty.
