New skates feeling stiff? We bake them in our professional Bauer and CCM skate ovens, then lace them onto your feet while they're warm, so the boot moulds to the shape of your foot. It's the quickest way to a comfortable, close fit.
Free with skates bought from Gloves Off, in the shop or online. Otherwise £15. In the shop in Kirkcaldy only, and there's no need to book.

Why bake your skates?
- A fit that's yours. The warm boot shapes itself around your foot and ankle.
- Less breaking in. Skates feel right in days, not weeks.
- Fewer sore spots. Baking eases pressure points and helps stop blisters.
- More control. A snug boot passes more of every stride and turn to the blade.
What happens in the shop
- We check your skates can be baked and that they're the right size.
- They go into the oven for a few minutes, at the time and heat the brand sets.
- You put them on while they're warm and we lace them up for you.
- You sit still for about 15 to 20 minutes while they cool and set.
- We check the fit with you before you go.
Allow about 30 minutes, and bring the socks you skate in.
Which skates can be baked?
Most mid- to high-end hockey skates from Bauer, CCM and TRUE are made to be baked. Many entry-level and recreational skates aren't. If you're not sure, bring them in or call us and we'll tell you.
Baking fine-tunes the fit. It can't fix skates that are the wrong size, so get them fitted first. We'll do that for you in the shop.
After baking
- Wait 24 hours before you skate, so the fit can set.
- Keep your skates out of hot cars and away from radiators, as heat can undo the fit.
- Please don't bake skates in a kitchen oven at home. It can damage the boot and void the warranty.
Bought your skates online?
Try them on at home first, indoors with the blade guards on. Once you're sure of the fit, bring them in and we'll bake them for free. Skates that have been baked can't be returned for a full refund, so check the fit first. Delivery and returns
While you're here, we can give them their first sharpen or a profile too. Skate sharpening and profiling
